Police release shocking footage of motorcycle collision

South Yorkshire Police have released shocking footage captured on a cars dashcam showing the moment it collided with a motorcycle whilst being on the wrong side of the road.

The crash which occured on the 28th April 2019 involved a Subaru and a motorcycle. In the footage the Subaru can be seen travelling at between 60 and 70 miles per hour when it negotiates a left hand bend. Whilst exiting that bend, the Subaru crosses the road and ends up travelling on the wrong side of the road.

In the moments before the motorcycle can be seen braking hard, with the rear of the bike lifting off the ground.

The rider of the motorcycle, who was said to be an experienced rider, suffered a broken back, a broken sternum, and a broken wrist.

Although the rider suffered some horrific injuries from the crash, he has credited his protective clothing with saving his life.

South Yorkshire Police are urging all motorcyclists to suit up before hitting the road in an effort to reduce the severity of injuries.

PC Carson from South Yorkshire Police stated "You (the motorcyclist) might be travelling in a safe manner, but that doesn't mean everyone else is".

The driver of the Subaru was jailed for 16 months by Sheffield Crown Court.
