Fears over 3,000 Vauxhall UK jobs

As rumours are abound of a potential merger between Fiat Chrysler, PSA (owners of Vauxhall), the union representing workers at Ellesmere Port fear for the future of 3,000 workers employed at the site.

The companies have collectively pledged to save £3.2bn without closing any factories, however unions in both the UK and France have raised their concerns about the reality of those savings.

“Merger talks combined with Brexit uncertainty are deeply unsettling for Vauxhall’s UK workforce, which is one of the most efficient in Europe,” said Des Quinn from Unite.

There are concerns that both the French and Italians will wish to keep production in their countries which may be to the detriment of the UK work force.

What do you think? Are you affected by this decision?
